With the third anniversary of Eva Markvoort’s death coming up, I don’t think there’s a day that goes by where I don’t wish that second call for lungs had come in time for her. Or that maybe, just maybe, Kitty could have gotten that third transplant. I have a lot of friends that suffer from chronic, sometimes terminal diseases, as do I have a lot of friends that probably would not be here were it not for their organ donor quite literally giving them the gift of life. However, I wouldn’t change my friendships with them for the world. People are more than the conditions or diseases they have. I will never forget that.
